About us
Data, put to good use
We started Data4Good because the skills charities need and the people who have them were rarely in the same room. We are building the place where they meet.
What is Data4Good?
Data4Good is a UK social enterprise, established in 2025, that connects data volunteers with charities and non-profits. Students, graduates, professionals and career changers work in small, supervised teams to turn charity data into insight. Charities get pro bono data analysis. Volunteers get real experience. Funders and partners make it possible.
Two problems, one answer
Charities sit on valuable data. Donor records, service logs, survey results, years of quiet evidence of the difference they make. But few have the time or the skills to read it, and fewer still can afford someone who does.
At the same time, students and graduates are told to get experience, and then find that experience is hard to come by. Professionals want to use their skills for something that matters. Career changers need a track record to show.
Data4Good was founded by Kieran Zhané, who saw both sides of the gap and set out to close it. The idea is simple. Put the right volunteers on the right questions, supervise them well, and let the results speak.
We are young and still growing, and we would rather build it carefully than quickly. That is why we keep teams small, why we guard charity data closely, and why we are open about the fact that we are currently full.
The values we work by
-
Charities first
Every decision starts with whether it helps the charity. Volunteers benefit because charities do.
-
Care with data
Behind every row is a person. We protect data, follow UK data protection law, and supervise every project.
-
Plain English
Insight that nobody can understand helps nobody. We explain our work simply, without jargon.
-
Quality over quantity
We would rather take on fewer projects and do them well. Small teams, close supervision, work to be proud of.
-
Open to everyone
Talent comes from everywhere. We want volunteering to be open to people whatever their background or route into data.
